Capturing your birthing journey in all of its raw beauty; unscripted and intimate.

My purpose is documenting this most precious, momentous event in your life. I vow to respect your space and your focus, working organically to capture the strength, vulnerability and beauty of your birth story. I hold safe those important moments you will cherish forever: the power of your birth, the first touch, the first kiss, that exquisite moment when love takes over and your baby is earth side in your arms.

Birth Photography FAQ

Why hire a birth photographer?

(01)

Every birth story is magical and sacred; totally unscripted, beautiful, powerful and vulnerable. It is an experience rich with tiny details and big emotions. Birth photography is about capturing this sacred, life-changing process.

Having your birth captured will allow you to look back on one of the most defining moments of your life, bringing you back to those memories, to that love.

How do you approach birth photography?

(02)

I vow to be respectful and non-invasive. As much as I would form part of your birthing team, I am not a doula and wouldn’t dream of interfering, holding your hand or telling you to push! My approach is calm, quiet and similar to that of a fly on the wall. Of course, I will say hello and if you are up for a chat then I will be happy to talk to you but often I arrive when you are ‘in the zone’ and can’t talk. I make sure to be sensitive to this and will pop in and out of the room at different points, giving you space when you need it and taking pictures when I feel a moment is important to capture.

When do you arrive at the birth and how do you make sure not to miss it?

(03)

This depends on many circumstances, as every birth is unique. Factors that influence my arrival include your birthing location and the speed of your labour. I attempt to arrive when you are in active labour.

If you are having a planned c-section - I document your birth from 2 hours prior to the birth until 1-2 hours after delivery.

In terms of ensuring that I don't miss a birth - for planned natural births I am on call from 37 weeks until you have your little babe/babies. You and your partner will just need to stay in close contact with me and keep me in the loop.

I would like to capture my baby as soon as they are born however don't want my labour captured. Can you accommodate this?

(04)

I would recommend a Fresh 48 session, which takes place in the hospital (or at home if you are having a home birth) within the first 48 hours of your baby being born. I will be on call for these sessions and you can phone as soon as the baby has arrived and you let me know when you would like me to come through. Just keep me in the loop when you are heading to the hospital so that I can make arrangements for my family.

What about permission?

(05)

Prior to booking, permission from your birth team needs to be granted.

I will provide you with a form which you will need to get all the relevant persons in your birth team to sign. Then we are ready to go and can continue with the booking.

How long will you stay after my baby is born?

(06)

I will stay between 1-2 hours depending on your preferences. It’s lovely being able to capture your baby's first feed, first cuddles with Mum and Dad and even their first time being weighed and measured.

I'm interested in my birth being photographed but my partner is weirded out by the idea. Any advice?

(07)

This is a very common situation - but there’s no need to worry! The best way to help your partner understand and engage with the idea of birth photography is by meeting me for a coffee or a Zoom to have a chat and ask questions.

What happens if you can't make it for some unforeseen reason?

(08)

That is the beauty of booking your birth with a photographer that is SABPA associated. I will assign a backup photographer who will also be on-call for your birth in case I am unable to make it.

How does payment and booking work?

(09)

After permission from your birth team is given, I require a 25% deposit and a signed contract to secure booking into my schedule. The remaining balance is then due 1 month before estimated due date.
